2010 SPRING CONFERENCE

Effective Writing Skills For Accountants and Auditors

This course is designed to improve the basic communication and writing techniques of accountants and auditors. Since communication is integral to all organizations, they cannot afford to ignore the importance of effective writing. Also, good writing has the same qualities as good accounting and auditing—it is clear, concise, logical and persuasive.

The course covers the following topics:

  • Follow a step-by-step process when writing, to avoid writer’s block and achieve a professional product
  • Organize the writing process logically, so as to anticipate final product for grammar, punctuation and style
  • Understand the principles of logical structure—deductive writing versus inductive writing, with a view to writing clearly organized sentences, paragraphs and findings
  • Review written documents to ensure they are in accordance with agency standards

The course is directed toward basic and intermediate staff members who need to prepare meaningful and persuasive written documents.
