The Association of Government Accountants (AGA) is a professional association of more than 16,000 individuals representing all forms and levels of federal, state, and local government agencies and departments. The Portland, Oregon Chapter supports the mission of AGA and is dedicated to serving its local members by providing quality educational programs, encouraging professional development, and serving as an advocate for the accounting profession. We invite both public and private sector professionals to join our dynamic organization. The Portland Chapter, chartered on April 14, 1955, first met at the Congress Hotel in downtown Portland on Friday evening, June 17, 1955. Maurice Stans, then President of the American Institute of Accountants, and later Secretary of Commerce in President Nixon's Cabinet, was the speaker at that first meeting. The Chapter originally held monthly dinner meetings during the months September through June, but switched to noon luncheon meetings in November 1964 to bolster attendance. In 1974, the Portland Chapter held its first annual one-day training symposium which remains a popular tradition to this day. |
